Liberty’s Gears named title sponsor
of PDRA Extreme Pro Stock
PITTSBORO, N.C. (December 22, 2017):
The PDRA is proud to announce a
multi-year deal with Liberty’s Gears
as the title sponsor of Extreme Pro
Stock (XPS). This announcement comes
with obvious changes in the class that
has been solely contested with Lenco
transmissions. Starting with the 2018
season, Liberty transmissions will
also be allowed in XPS. Cars running a
Liberty must weigh 2435. Cars running
a Lenco must weigh 2400. “I’m excited
to begin this relationship with PDRA.
The PDRA has a lot to offer,” stated
Craig Liberty. “I believe this will

Giangrande Looks Back with Gratitude
on Pro Stock Return
PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C. (December 12,
2017): The off season is the perfect
time to reflect on the previous
season, taking stock of the season’s
pros and cons in preparation for the
season to come. For Matt Giangrande,
this was an important season on which
to reflect. After being out of the
driver’s seat for a large part of two
years, 2017 was Giangrande’s comeback
year. Suitably, it was also a comeback
year, of sorts, for the class he chose
to run. The Long Islander-turned-North
Carolinian became a door car fan from
his youth and has never swayed from
that first love. He’s driven and
served as crew chief... |

Brayden Davis Makes History
PITTSBORO, N.C. (December 6, 2017):
The MegaCorp Top Junior Dragster World
Champion, Brayden Davis, won his
championship alongside his father,
Travis, making them the first PDRA
son/father championships won in the
same year. Now, just days after
turning 12 years old, Brayden is ready
to make his acceptance speech at the
PDRA Awards Banquet, held this
Saturday in Indianapolis, Indiana. The
sixth grader from Georgia is
well-rounded, an accomplished racer
who also devotes time to soccer,
baseball, hunting and fishing. He

Amber Franklin, Full of Gratitude
PITTSBORO, N.C. (December 6, 2017): It
was quite a year for the Franklin
family. Hot of his 2016 Pro Nitrous
Championship, Tommy Franklin continued
his winning ways. His eldest daughter,
Amber, followed closely in his
footsteps and the youngest Franklin,
Ashley, did incredibly well in her
first year behind the wheel. While
Tommy and Amber have often shared
final round appearances at the races -
including three times in 2017 alone -
a double-win has eluded them. There
was something bigger in store for
them, however. The father/daughter duo
won it all together as the 2017

Circle Track Legend Wins Top
Sportsman 32 Title
PITTSBORO, N.C. (Dec. 5, 2017): Mark
Malcuit made his name in circle track
racing. He racked up several
championships and carved his mark on
the industry. In 1993 he suffered an
off-track wreck that left him with a
broken neck, effectively ending his
circle track career. So nearly 18
years ago he began his career in drag
racing. This year, he celebrates his
first drag racing championship as the
MagnaFuel Top Sportsman 32 World
Champion. This was the first year for
PDRA’s pilot Top Sportsman program in
which all cars qualify together, and
then, if car count provides, the class

Silance Slays Again
PITTSBORO, N.C. (December 4, 2017):
Success seems to come easy to Dewayne
Silance, but behind the 3,000 hogs at
Silance Hog Farm and three Silance
Service Centers across Jacksonville,
North Carolina, behind the now nine
divisional and national championships
is years of hard work and dedication.
Silance won two IHRA Top Sportsman
World Championships and a couple of
divisional championships back in the
early 2000s, but took a break from TS
competition a few years later,
switching to try his hand with a Pro
Mod. During that time he racked up
four championships with the EOPM. |

PDRA Top Dragster Competition was
Cooked by ‘17 World Champ
PITTSBORO, N.C. (December 3, 2017): In
1998, a young man from the mountains
of North Carolina mopped the floor
with IHRA Top Dragster competition,
claiming his first ever world
championship. Now, just under two
decades later, Matt Cooke has done it
again. Pulled in by the two day race
format, Cooke gave the Professional
Drag Racers Association a try in the
fall of 2015. It turned out well for
him, his wife Kelly and car owner Andy
Burnet. Cooke won Dragstock and made
plans to chase the tour in 2017. The
year started out with a blip, but
things quickly took a turn for the
better. |

PITTSBORO, N.C. (December 1, 2017):
When Outlaw 632 came on the PDRA

well-received and quickly established
a spot on the PDRA tour. The class
will enter its third PDRA season in
2018, again competing in five of the
eight events, and this time with a
fresh name, Pro 632. This season,
Dillon Voss and the Voss Racing

winning four of the five events and
coming home with a decisive victory as
the 2017 Outlaw 632 World Champion.

Travis Davis Scores First

PITTSBORO, N.C. (November 27, 2017):
There’s a new king in Drag 965 Pro
Extreme Motorcycle. Since the PDRA’s
inception, Eric McKinney has sat upon
the proverbial throne. He started out
2017 winning the first event and it
looked that his vanquishing trend
would continue. That was until Travis
Davis. This season he was ready to
give a championship run serious focus,
as he quickly illustrated. He stepped
up and won the next four events,
subsequently ending McKinney’s three
year domination in PDRA. “It feels

PITTSBORO, N.C. (November 7, 2017): It

Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars Proves
Good Indicator for Overall Success
PITTSBORO, N.C. (July 27, 2017): The
guys and gals of Switzer Dynamics Pro
Nitrous presented by MoTeC depend on
their engine programs as a large part
of the equation for their success. The
engine builders, even if not in the
driver’s seat, take winning as
seriously as anyone. While the
quickest and fastest car isn’t always
the one in the winner’s circle, it’s
proving to be true more often than not
in this season of Pro Nitrous. Three
times in the five events held thus far
this year, the Flatout Gaskets Pro
Nitrous Wars winner, that is, the pole
sitter, has went on to win the event. |

PITTSBORO, N.C. (April 15, 2017): The

Nitrous engine builders. With
competition so close any one Pro

PITTSBORO, N.C. (March 30, 2017):
Flying A Motorsports has been involved
with professional eighth-mile drag

been the “Official Hauler of the PDRA”
since the series’ inception. Flying
A’s owner, Alan Cape, originally
started in the sport nearly 30 years

trailers and more. “We’ve been in
business since 1988,” Cape storied.
“Back in that timeframe not everybody
was doing this. We were right next
door to Jerry Haas, Tim McAmis,
Jeffers, Bickel, so we had good
traffic coming by and got to connect

TS Championship Chase
TRANSFER, Pa. (January 5, 2017): From
the beginning of his national-level
Top Sportsman racing endeavors, Dan

bit of faith, help from some good
friends, and a whole lot of hard work.

from for the next trip. But, somehow,
he always made it work. Two
championships and a runner up finish
later, Ferguson was back to the
drawing board. Having completed a one

Returning to Drag Racing Roots to
Keep it Great in 2017 -
PDRA Puts Emphasis on Personas
PITTSBORO, N.C. (January 4, 2017):
Nicknames were synonymous with drag
racing in the initial heyday of the
sport. The names Raymond Beadle and
Harry Schmidt may not be widely
familiar, but say “Blue Max” and any
number of drag racing fans can
immediately picture a blue funny car
with white stripes and gold lettering.
Let’s be honest - drag racing, as much
as it’s identified by cars, has always
been about the people. But the people
are known by their personas, personas
that are often emblazoned on the sides
of their hotrods. |
