MUSTAFA BUHUMAID EARNS
COMPETITIONPLUS.COM’S PDRA MEMPHIS
STORY OF THE WEEKEND
SPARTANBURG, SC - Some might call it
beginner's luck. Others might call it
natural talent.
NAS Racing driver Mustafa Buhumaid
calls driving what is arguably the
most volatile race car on the planet
fun.
Buhumaid drives a Pro Extreme car, the
top of the food chain in PDRA
competition, and just to think,
During the PDRA Memphis Drags,
Buhumaid recorded his first runs, and
it only took four tries to produce a
3.70-second elapsed time and in doing
so, secured a spot in final
eliminations.
"You get in these cars and it's like
'wow, this is aggressive,’" said
Buhumaid. "As soon as I got in the Pro
Extreme and made a full pass, I

realized, "wow, this is
far from where I came from."
For Buhumaid, his journey began with training from iconic drag racing
school instructor Frank Hawley. It was Hawley, he said, who walked him
through learning the ins and outs of the car. Hawley instructed him on
how to drive the car.
Buhumaid, executive director for NAS Racing, came to the PDRA to
support the class as well through title sponsorship. If he was going
to compete in the class, he wanted to see it flourish.
"I knew I wouldn't make a move to the PDRA unless I sponsored
something," said Buhumaid. "It was important we let people know what
NAS Racing and Dubai was all about. I wanted to show the PDRA how
committed I was. I told Jason Scruggs I wouldn't come unless I
sponsored. He told me we didn't have to, he just wanted us to come and
race. I told him I wanted to sponsor a class. Then things happened."
Because of his fast track to Pro Extreme, Buhumaid earned the
CompetitionPlus.com PDRA story of the weekend. He joins Frankie Taylor
and Mike Recchia as 2014 winners.
Coming in a close second, local Memphis racer Eddie Rogers, who got
tired of his roots supercharged car getting beaten up by screw
superchargers in the events close to home, so when he heard of the
PDRA's Pro Boost class, he put a roots combination back in his car in
the week of the race. Not only did he qualify No. 1 but also won the
race.
