RECCHIA SNAGS PDRA GEORGIA DRAGS STORY OF THE WEEKEND HONORS

VALDOSTA, GA. - Ever heard the term, "Can't win for losing?" PDRA Pro Extreme racer Mike Recchia believes after Saturday's final qualifying session at the Georgia Drags in Valdosta, Ga, he is a candidate to be the poster child of futility.

Recchia, headed into the final session unqualified, laid every ounce of his driver mettle on the line in an attempt to earn a spot in the qualified field. The Roseville, Ill.-based driver covered every inch of his lane during last Saturday's final qualifying session.

Recchia was the No. 17 qualifier, and shortly after the launch his 1969 Camaro began to move around in his lane. The term "move around" has never seemed so inadequate.

"Sometimes you’ve just got to take what you can get, right?" Recchia asked.

What Recchia didn't realize was that with Todd Martin breaking in qualifying, and second alternate Don Wooton failing to improve, he was assured of a starting berth in eliminations.

"Just drive the wheels off of it and hope for the best, I guess," said Recchia.

Unfortunately for Recchia, his incredible effort proved to be his eventual undoing. The team broke the rear-end during the heroic effort and despite help from the Jason Scruggs [his scheduled opponent] and crew, they were unable to fix the broken car.

For his efforts, Recchia in losing his chance to race, won with the CompetitionPlus.com Story of the Weekend, and the $200 prize which accompanies it.
