COMPETITIONPLUS.COM TO SPONSOR PDRA’S STORY OF THE WEEKEND AWARD

CompetitionPlus.com, a leading Internet drag racing magazine, will sponsor the Professional Drag Racing Association’s “Story of the Weekend” award during the 2014 season.

The award will present the selected driver and team with $200 as well as have their story chronicled in the media through a joint effort between the PDRA and CompetitionPlus.com.

“We have been a proud supporter of this style of racing long before these racers had a professional category much less a place to race on a regular basis,” said Bobby Bennett, Publisher/Editor of CompetitionPlus.com. “The PDRA has an incredible family of racers and those racers have really good stories to tell. Our goal is to tell them to the world.”

Bob Harris, VP of Operations for the PDRA, believes this unique concept will help get the word out about the new series.

“You know, the winners get their stories told at the end of the event, but in joining up with CompetitionPlus.com, we are able to create more winners,” said Harris. “These racers compete tirelessly and pour their hearts into what they do. I’m really thankful we have someone like CompetitionPlus.com here to tell their story.”

TAYLOR EARNS COMPETITIONPLUS.COM PDRA STORY OF THE WEEKEND AWARD

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. April 7, 2014: One man's discarded item can often become another man's treasure.

And for Frankie Taylor, the iconic outlaw doorslammer racer from Dickinson, Tex., a discarded pair of slicks were enough for him to turn the doorslammer world upside down with a 3.485 elapsed time and lead Pro Extreme qualifying at the PDRA Spring Open event in Rockingham, NC.

His feat earned $200 from CompetitionPlus.com as the Story of the Event.

"Mike Recchia told me yesterday that he had a pair with only four runs on them, but they had been sitting all winter so he didn't want to use them," Taylor explained. "I said, 'Heck, I'll take 'em! Mine have b
een sitting all winter on the car, too, but they have over 40 runs on 'em!"

Taylor ran a 3.599 elapsed time during Friday's lone session and sat out the first two Saturday sessions in order to save parts and not to put any more wear on his already tired slicks.

"We had to step it up just to keep up with (Jason) Scruggs and Stanton and all those guys," Taylor explained. "Not too shabby, we were first to the .50s with the PDRA and now we're first to the .40s," "This is a tune-up we had used overseas in Qatar and with similar conditions here today we just thought it would work pretty good."

Honorable mentions for the event included Lizzy Musi's rookie debut, Eric Dilliard's merchant of speed display and Todd Martin's team's misfortunes.

The CompetitionPlus.com Story of the Event award provides $200 at each event to the racer or race team who has the best story as selected by the PDRA's announcing team of Al Tucci and Brian Olson, along with input from PDRA team members and the on-site staff of CompetitionPlus.com.
