Gilbert Motorsports Recognizes Value of Starting Young

PITTSBORO, N.C. (April 3, 2018): The Virginia-based team of Gilbert Motorsports has been involved in the PDRA for years, running Top Sportsman and Juniors. They were drawn to the PDRA by the family atmosphere and values that reflect their own. When the opportunity arose to get involved on another level, owner Kris Gilbert jumped at the chance.

Gilbert Motorsports will present Top Junior Dragster action this season. While the organization was officially founded in 1996, owner Kris Gilbert has been in one form of motorsports or another since the late ‘80s. He began in motocross before transitioning to drag racing and adding driver Quentin Metheny. The team added a pair of Junior Dragsters in 2015, driven by Gilbert’s sons Jacob and Chase. This season, Gilbert himself will take over full time driving duties in the team’s ‘69 Camaro.

Continuing their diverse interests, Gilbert Motorsports purchased the Virginia Giant Monster Truck team in 2014. Then in 2016, the team added a second monster truck, Toxic.

In addition to all their racing endeavors, Kris, along with wife Danielle, and their team keep busy with Fairfax Towing and Recovery, plus a full service performance shop, junkyard, auto body repair shop, ice cream shop and more.

“We’re a complete performance operation,” explained Jason Hahn, manager of the performance shop. “Everything from spark plugs to tires, whatever anybody needs we have under the Gilbert Motorsports umbrella. We’re a full force that can do anything from get a car painted, to body repairs, to complete performance. We’ll have product on site at the race track. We do have a complete line of oil oil products like Redline, Amsoil, Lucas Oil, and more, plus additive packages from CRC and Permatek.”

Gilbert Motorsports will carry product and take orders at the PDRA races. Look for the Gilbert Motorsports flag.

“We jumped at the opportunity to sponsor Top Junior Dragster because this is a family sport and we want to make sure there’s a place for the kids,” stated Gilbert. “We do it for the kids. That’s the reason we started our Monster Truck racing team, as well. It puts a smile on their faces.”

“We’re all about the PDRA and anything we can do to help,” he continued. “Tommy and Judy and the PDRA team have put their neck out on the line to give us a place to race. Us being business owners, we realize what it takes to operate a business, how much money, time and effort it takes. I’ve been in motocross, Monster Trucks, many years of drag racing and the PDRA is the only organization I can take my kids to and not worry about them. We want to give back to the PDRA because its the best organization we’ve ever been involved with. We are thankful for this opportunity and we’re thankful to God that we’re in a position to do this. Without Him, none of this would be possible.”

“We really enjoy the kids,” added Hahn. “Junior racing teaches so much to the kids. Unlike most sports today, not everybody goes home with a trophy. Most little league games today, they’re all winners. Drag racing is one of the few sports left in which kids learn about losing, too. It makes them a better person. It gives them discipline, peers and a family environment, plus training in safety. These are the next PDRA Top Sportsman, Dragster, Pro Nitrous racers. They’ll have eight to ten years in a car before they even get out on the road. That’s the reason we wanted to jump on this with the kids. This is the future of drag racing.

“PDRA is a true family organization,” said Hahn. “Gilbert Motorsports is the same way.”
