Rini/Buck Sneak in a Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars Title Amidst Franklin/Musi Domination

PITTSBORO, N.C. (November 1, 2016): Take 16 of the quickest and fastest nitrous oxide-assisted doorslammers on the planet, pair them with a half dozen of the top drag race engine builders and watch it all play out in 660 feet. The PDRA is home to these Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars that garnered much attention in the inaugural season as an official competition among engine builders and their respective teams.

Despite much parity among the top five in PDRA points representing four engine builders, Musi Racing Engines consistently proved to have an advantage during qualifying. Throughout the season, a Musi-powered car shot to the front of the qualifying field seven out of nine times this season. The 2016 Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous World Champion, Tommy Franklin, got his third pole and Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars victory of the season at the Sunshine State Shootout by virtue of his 3.708 at 202.70 effort. This gave Franklin an edge on the field as the only driver to score three Nitrous Wars victories. With one race to go, only Lizzy Musi had the opportunity to tie Franklin for the title.

At the PDRA World Finals, however, Chris Rini proved his comeback status, pushing his ‘69 Camaro to the front of the pack with a staggering 3.694 to secure his first-ever Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars victory. Like his counterpart, Jay Cox - who led the points the majority of this year, Rini utilizes Charlie Buck Racing Engine power.

Rini thanked Nitrous Wars sponsor Flatout Gaskets and added, “We saved the best for last. Buck Engines, TTF.”

Although Rini and Buck have the final say this season and brazenly shot “To The Front” Franklin and Musi topped the leaderboard overall and as such are crowned the 2016 Flatout Gaskets Pro Nitrous Champions.

“In 2016 our Pat Musi power has been unmatched by its competition,” Franklin stated. “There are several great engine builders out there, but our Musi power has been unreal this season! There are many great things in the works for 2017 and after two of those Nitrous Wars #1 qualifying spots going to other engine builders and Musi powered cars only winning seven of the nine Nitrous Wars #1 Qualifying spots I can tell you it gives Pat the drive to get better next season.”

As Franklin asserted, Musi isn’t backing down, and rest assured neither are the other competitors and engine builders. The 2016 season may be in the books, but the PDRA Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars are just getting started.
