Musi
Racing Engines Continues to Dominate Flatout Gaskets
Nitrous Wars
PITTSBORO, N.C. (September 16, 2016): Since Steve Jackson
and Reher-Morrison Racing Engines broke the Musi Racing
Engines #1 qualifier streak in Pro Nitrous at the PDRA
Summer Drags in June, Musi’s regime has resumed its reign,
once again dominating the Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars.
For the second time this year, Lizzy Musi topped the Pro
Nitrous leader board in qualifying. At the North-South
Shootout at Maryland International Raceway, the President
of Musi Racing Engines took her 2015 Dart to a 3.758 at
204.48 miles per hour to set the tone for the rest of the
competition. Fellow Musi Racing Engines driver Tommy
Franklin went on to win the event, ensuring Musi engines’
domination throughout the weekend. Franklin continued his
trend at the next event, the PDRA Memphis Drags. For the
second time this season, Franklin hoisted the coveted
Flatout Gaskets Nitrous wars trophy thanks to his 3.759 at
202 MPH effort. However, Jay Cox would have the final say
of the weekend, making a comeback after his wreck at
North-South Shootout to win it all in Memphis with Buck
Racing Engines power. From Memphis, the PDRA traveled east
to the highly praised GALOT Motorsports Park for Dragstock
XIII. There a surprise awaited Pro Nitrous competitors as
veteran Pro Mod racer Randy Weatherford joined the PN
ranks with a bang. He laid down a 3.765 in the North
Carolina heat to take the number one qualifying spot and
earn his first Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars victory. He
did so with a Musi powerplant underneath the hood of his
‘69 Camaro. The final round pairing was no surprise,
however. Lizzy Musi lined up against Tommy Franklin for an
all Musi engines matchup. The lady took the win by a seven
thousandths margin of victory.
Musi Racing Engines founder, Pat Musi, is thrilled over
the success of his customers this season, but isn’t
stopping to celebrate:
“The fact of the matter is, we’ve won six of the seven
races so far, and we intend on getting the next two,” Musi
asserted. “We had one hiccup all year. They’re coming at
us, but we’re able to stay ahead. The R&D program we’ll
have this winter - boy, [my competitors] better be
working. Instead of worrying about what me and Tommy and
John Camp and my crew are doing, they need to go to work.
If their work ethic would work like their mouths, they’d
be okay.”
Musi debunks rumors that he gives his daughter the best
stuff from his shop, pointing to Dean Marinis and Randy
Weatherford. Both racers have not been regular competitors
in Pro Nitrous, but set the pole this season using Musi
power.
“Everybody always thinks we give Lizzy or Tommy the best
stuff, but it comes down to working on your car. We’ve got
power here at Musi. If they don’t know that, they don’t
know how to read a scoreboard. So they know out of this
camp, they’re getting power. We’ve come a long way making
power, but we’ve also come a long way in the durability of
these engines. None of the Musi cars have to work on it.
That’s huge for us. You get to make more runs and have
more fun doing it. Honestly, it’s an accomplishment for
everybody involved, including our R&D partners. We work on
this stuff nonstop. We have an ongoing R&D program that
will continue in the Middle East this winter. We’ll make
over a hundred runs there that we’ll take back with us.”

With just two events
remaining in the PDRA’s third season, Musi Racing Engines has dominated in
performance time and again, winning six of the seven Flatout Gaskets
Nitrous Wars. The driver who has the most #1 qualifier awards after the
World Finals will retain the coveted Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars trophy
throughout the offseason. So far, only Tommy Franklin and Lizzy Musi have
secured the pole more than once this season.
The battle for the Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous World Championship is
still an extremely tight battle, with four different engine builders
topping the field. Jay Cox and his Buck engine currently lead the pack in
championship points standings, just 69 points ahead of Tommy Franklin.
Travis Harvey sits third with Sonny’s Racing Engines and Steve Jackson
sits fourth with Reher-Morrison power.
Although it’s clear no other engine builder can top Musi’s #1 qualifier
domination this season, Musi insists his camp isn’t done yet. “Now we’re
just trying to put salt in the wound,” he stated. “We couldn’t be happier.
I couldn’t be happier for our customer base, our company, everybody. We
have a real good crew, and I’m just tickled to death with the whole deal.
I come from the old Pro Stock school and all I know how to do is keep
working. Even if I’m fast, I’m not sitting still. I’m not sitting still
right now.” Musi also mentioned that he is currently looking to hire at
Musi Racing Engines.
Two events remain to see if Musi’s Nitrous Wars domination can be reigned
in by one of the other prolific engine builders or if Musi Racing Engines
will completely sweep the last half of the season. Watch the Flatout
Gaskets Nitrous Wars during qualifying and every pass of the final two
events live on MotorManiaTV.com. The Mel Bush Motorsports Sunshine State
Shootout will happen Sept. 29- Oct. 1. The PDRA season will wrap up with
the World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park, Oct. 20-22. Follow PDRA on
