Extreme Pro Stock and DiSomma Racing Engines Outlaw 10.5 Part of Summer Drags
Lineup
PITTSBORO, N.C. (May 27, 2016): In addition to the four professional classes,
two sportsman, and two junior dragster classes contested at each stop on the PDRA tour, Extreme Pro Stock and DiSomma Racing Engines Outlaw 10.5 will join
PDRA at the upcoming Summer Drags.
The Summer Drags, held June 9-11 at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich.,
will be the second of five events Extreme Pro Stock (XPS) will run with the PDRA
this season. XPS had an impressive first outing during the Spring Nationals at
Rockingham Dragway with several of the naturally aspirated machines covering the
eighth-mile in less than 4.10 seconds. North Carolinian Richard Penland took
home top honors at the event, his home stop on the tour. Penland dedicated the
win to his father, who passed away just the week before the event. He’ll be
looking to continue his winning ways and hold on to his early season points
lead, but he’ll have to get through the likes of former World Champs John
Montecalvo and Brian Gahm, among a host of other heavy hitters.
DiSomma Racing Engines Outlaw 10.5 will make its 2016 debut with the PDRA at the
Summer Nationals, as part of their larger schedule with the Mickey Thompson
Tires Outlaw 10.5 National Championship Series. This will be the sixth stop on
their tour of ten total events. These cars are always a thrill to watch, often
driving much more than the 660 feet of the eighth-mile and still getting down
the track in under four seconds. Defending series champion Mike Decker has been
on a roll again this season. Event sponsor Anthony DiSomma will be looking to
improve his points standings and be the stumbling block for Decker. Mo Hall and
John Carinci have also knocked off wins this season. It’s a tight field with
incredible side-by-side racing. They will join the PDRA for a second time at the
North-South Shootout at Maryland International Raceway, July 14-16.
