MBE a
Consistent Part of PDRA Success Stories
PITTSBORO, N.C. (April 7, 2016): In professional
categories across all series in drag racing, top teams
choose MBE Cylinder Heads and Manifolds. Owner Matt
Bieneman and his team make the choice easy with
performance gains that can’t be denied. The company’s
continued innovations have led to gains for teams in PDRA
Pro Extreme and Pro Boost, along NHRA Pro Stock, Funny Car
and Top Fuel that are almost unheard of in drag racing.
MBE’s latest innovation gave current customers an
additional 2.5 MPH, while new customers are seeing a pick
up of 5-7 MPH over competitor’s cylinder heads. These
gains are huge in an industry where it can often be
difficult to see even slight advantages over the
competition.
In PDRA’s short timespan thus far, MBE customers have
racked up an astounding amount of wins, records, and
quickest and fastest runs. MBE cylinder heads was
represented in a final at eight of the nine PDRA events in
2015 and also helped score number one qualifying spots at
eight events. Last year MBE customer |

Brandon
Snider set the Pro Extreme E.T. record at a 3.512 at the
PDRA Finals in Richmond on his way to a runner up finish.
This record held until the first event of 2016 when Snider
reset his own record with a 3.48 effort at nearly 221 MPH.
“We have a new design on Brandon Snider’s car,” told
Bieneman. “Over our existing design it was worth over 2.5
mile an hour. It doesn’t matter if it’s a supercharged
application or a turbo application. The same stuff was on
Anthony DiSomma’s car. Terry Leggett is switching to the
new design this year also. Most of our customers will pick
up 5-7 mile an hour when they switch from a competitor.”
MBE customer and Pro Open Outlaw World Champion Jody
Stroud holds the POO elapsed time record at 3.65 and
Anthony DiSomma holds the Pro Boost MPH record at 213.
Despite MBE’s considerable performance advantage and its
success with customers like Snider and DiSomma in PDRA and
Jack Beckman and Antron Brown in NHRA, the company
Bieneman started himself in 1997 has only seven employees.
Bieneman says the key to MBE’s success comes from
developing his skills at a young age and learning from
some of the best in the business. He has taken MBE from a
one-man-band to seven full time employees working in a
shop that produces cylinder heads and manifolds for all
applications.
“We are very proud of our accomplishments and will
continue to revolutionize cylinder head technology. We
have really good people,” Bieneman said of his team at MBE.
“Three of us were in charge of cylinder head departments
at Cup shops and one was a head engine builder. We’re
very, very fortunate to have these people. We do all these
projects together and that’s what makes us better.”
MBE is currently working on a new head design specifically
for Alcohol/Pro Mod application, and also plans to debut a
new billet LS cylinder head in about three months and a
billet small block Chevy with 4.500 bore space a month
after that.
Ever a forward-thinker, Bieneman says the PDRA offers a
special appeal to him due to its “no rules” format. “The
PDRA is full of a group of racers that just want to get
better all the time,” emphasized Bieneman. “They don’t
want rules so they can be stagnant. We try to explain to
people there’s never been a rule that has saved a racer
money. If they can name it, I’d like to hear it. That just
does not exist. What happens is when they make these
rules, the people with the most money will definitely win
because they’ve got the finances to refine things better
than the others.
“The rules separate everybody. It doesn’t matter if it’s
Pro Stock or what it is. That’s what happens. The PDRA is
growing. Right now is a great opportunity for them. The
biggest thing [for Pro Mod classes to keep moving forward]
is not to add rules. The rules only favor the people with
the most money. The electronic fuel injection is in the
infant stages. I think it will become really important in
the next three years as it makes the engines more
efficient. Between cylinder head technology and fuel
injection those will be the biggest gains in the next
three years in Pro Mod classes.”
MBE will post PDRA contingency for their cylinder heads in
Pro Extreme, Pro Boost, Pro Nitrous, Top Sportsman and Top
Dragster this season. Bieneman plans to attend the
majority of PDRA events this season and will be at the
Spring Nationals at Rockingham Dragway this upcoming
weekend, April 7-9.
